Cookie Policy

The short version
SongLens uses no cookies. This website sets none. The mobile app cannot set them — it is a native app, not a web page. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixel and no third-party embed anywhere in either one.
That is why you are not being asked to accept anything. A consent banner on a site with no cookies would be theatre.
1. This website
This site publishes SongLens's legal documents. It is static HTML and CSS. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage, runs no JavaScript, and loads no fonts, scripts, images or embeds from any other domain. Nothing here profiles you or follows you to another site.
The only data our host records is the ordinary server log every web server keeps — the request and the IP address it came from — which is used to serve the page and keep the site up, and for nothing else.
2. The SongLens mobile app
The app is a native Android application. Cookies are a web browser mechanism, so the app does not use them. It does store a small amount of information on your device, which is a related idea and worth being straight about.
| What | Where | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sign-in tokens | Encrypted device keystore | Keeps you signed in between sessions, so you do not retype your password every time. | Until you sign out, or the token expires. |
| Free-trial key | Encrypted device keystore | Lets the app resume the same free trial if you reinstall, so the trial is not simply restarted forever. It is random data generated by our server — it is not derived from your device, and it identifies an installation, not a person. | Until the app's data is cleared. |
| Light/dark theme choice | App preferences | Remembers the appearance you picked. | Until you change it or uninstall. |
| "Search tips seen" flag | App preferences | Stops the first-run search hint from reappearing every time. | Until you uninstall. |
That is the complete list. There is no advertising identifier, no device fingerprint, no analytics SDK, and no behavioural profile — in the app or on our servers.
3. Why there is no consent banner
Under the EU ePrivacy rules (Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC, as implemented in Finland), consent is needed before storing information on, or reading information from, your device — unless that storage is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for.
Applied honestly to the table above:
- The sign-in tokens and the free-trial key are what make the service work at all. Without them you would be signed out constantly and the trial could not function. Strictly necessary — exempt.
- The theme choice and the search-tips flag are preferences you set yourself, stored only to honour what you chose, and never read by us. These are the textbook example of a user-preference exemption.
- Nothing is stored for analytics, advertising or measurement — the categories that do require consent.
So no consent is required today, and asking for it would not make you any better protected. If that ever changes — if we add analytics, advertising, crash reporting that identifies you, or any third-party SDK — we will ask for your consent first, and this page will say so before it happens.
4. Third parties
The app talks to our own server, which in turn talks to a small number of services on our behalf. None of them place anything on your device, and none of them receive a tracking identifier for you.
| Service | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude) | Generates the interpretation | Song metadata only — title, artist, genre, duration, release details. No account details, and no lyrics. |
| Spotify, MusicBrainz | Song and artist information, cover artwork | Search terms, sent by our server with our own credentials — not linked to you. |
| Resend | Sends account emails and support messages | Your email address, and the content of a support request if you send one. |
| Google Play | Handles subscriptions and payment | Your purchase. We never see your payment details. |
| Railway, Cloudflare | Hosting and DNS | The ordinary traffic needed to reach our server. |
Cover artwork is loaded directly from Spotify's image servers so it can be displayed next to the song. That means Spotify's servers see the request for the image. It carries no SongLens account information.
The Privacy Policy covers all of this in more detail, including where each service processes data and what your rights are.
5. What you can clear
- Sign out in the app removes the sign-in tokens from your device.
- Android → Settings → Apps → SongLens → Storage → Clear data removes everything in the table above, including the free-trial key.
- Uninstalling removes it all.
- Clearing device storage does not delete your account. To do that, use Profile → Delete account in the app.
6. Changes to this policy
If we start using cookies or similar technologies that need your consent, we will update this page and ask you before we do it — not after. The date at the top shows the current version.
